Open letter to president Iván Duque and ELN
March 30 2020,
Today we are very pleased with the commitment of the ELN guerrillas to initiate a unilateral humanitarian cessation due to the pandemic crisis COVID-19 that also affects Colombia until the end of April. Thanks to the ELN. We want all armed wars to end.
This decision is fundamental at a time when there is a historical and systematic exclusion in our territories, with the denial of our rights to peace, health and food, without receiving an answer from the State. it is a relief.
We hope that President Duque will respond to our request in the same lines for a cessation of offensive operations, unless they are attacked, to prevent the eventual expansion of the pandemic and to generate basic guarantees for our humanitarian mobilization due to situations of territorial tension because its operations and that of other armed groups. (https://www.justiciaypazcolombia.com/carta-abierta-2-llamado-al-presidente-duque-maximo-comandante-ffmm/).
We demand that President Duque respond in some of our territories to the cessation of glyphosate, forced eradications.
We demand an early preventive humanitarian intervention by COVID-19 due to severe droughts in some of our territories, expansion of dengue fever, food crisis, in particular of our indigenous communities in Meta and Chocó.
We call on the other armed groups to make decisions that respect life. The pressure, the confinement, the death threats and the murder as happens in Putumayo, San Juan, Bajo Atrato in the midst of this pandemic crisis, far from giving military advantage these are an offense to life that hurts all humanity.
We reject the killing of leaders and people who signed the peace and the killing of people deprived of their liberty.
We reiterate our positive assessment of this gesture by the ELN, which gives us humanitarian hope for the continuity of peace with socio-environmental justice.
We invite the whole country to listen to the planet that speaks to us, to the entire humanity that speaks to us of the vanity of power in the service of the few, to hear so much pain without justification, from a few against life in all its manifestations.
This is the time for the country’s new course in a project really at peace, tolerant and inclusive, given the effects that COVID-19 will have on the lives of the excluded people, between us, from the middle class and some business sectors. Life speaks to us, let us listen.
